India has signed a deal worth Rs 858 crore with Russia. Under this, the country will get Tunguska Air Defense Missile System and the country’s air defense system will become stronger. India already has S-400, Barak-8 and Akash air defense systems. With the inclusion of Tunguska Air Defense Missile System, the country’s security will be further strengthened. It was informed by the Defense Ministry that a total contract worth Rs 858 crore has been signed for the purchase of Tunguska Air Defense Missile System and inspection (depot level) of P8I Long-Range Maritime Reconnaissance Aircraft. These contracts were signed on March 27, 2026 at Dutva Bhawan-2, New Delhi.
The contract for procurement of Tunguska Air Defense Missile System worth Rs 445 crore for the Indian Army was signed with JSC Rosoboronexport of Russia in the presence of Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. These latest missiles will enhance India’s multilayered air defense capabilities against air threats including aircraft drones and cruise missiles. This agreement will further strengthen the India-Russia strategic defense partnership.

Deal worth Rs 413 crore for P8I aircraft
A contract worth Rs 413 crore under the ‘Buy Indian’ category for the inspection (depot level) of P8I Long-Range Maritime Reconnaissance Aircraft for the Indian Navy with 100% indigenous content was signed with Boeing India Defense Pvt. Ltd., a wholly owned Indian subsidiary of Boeing. This contract was signed in the presence of senior officials of the Defense Ministry. This contract will ensure depot level maintenance of the P8I fleet at MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) facilities in the country, in line with the Government of India’s promise of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make-in-India.
2 squadrons of S-400 defense system will be received this year
India had signed a deal with Russia in 2018 for the purchase of S-400 air defense system. It included a total of 5 squadrons. India has received three of these, but two squadrons are yet to be delivered. Now Russia has said that by the end of this year, India will get the delivery of the remaining two squadrons of S-400 air defense system.
