He has become the third Indian to captain India’s Under-19 World Cup team as well as lead the team in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was seen captaining Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the first match of IPL 2026. This match took place at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Kishan captained India in the 2016 Under-19 World Cup, where the team finished runner-up.

With the captaincy of SRH, Ishan has now joined the exclusive club of select Indian players who have captained the team in both the Under-19 World Cup and IPL. The feat was first achieved by Virat Kohli, who captained India in the Under-19 World Cup in 2008 and later led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) from 2011 to 2023. Parthiv Patel has also achieved this special achievement.
