The contest on Haflong seat in Assam Assembly elections 2026 is going to be very interesting. There is a possibility of a close contest between two women leaders here. The special thing is that both the women leaders made their mark while being in BJP, but now they are in the electoral fray against each other. Nandita had won the last election from this seat and was also a minister in the Himanta government, but when her ticket was cut, she decided to join Congress and contest the elections.

In Haflong, there is a close contest between Rupali Langthasa of BJP and Nandita Garlosa of Congress. Assam Assembly seat number 113 is reserved for Scheduled Tribes. It falls in Dima Hasao district. The first phase of voting is to be held here on April 9.

Nandita became MLA in 2021

BJP candidate Nandita Garlosa had won the 2021 assembly elections. Contesting the elections on BJP ticket, he had secured around 56.7% votes. He got a total of 67,797 votes. Whereas, Congress candidate Nirmal Langthasa got 49,199 votes. His vote percentage was 41.16. About 1,19,518 votes were cast on this seat and Nandita won by a margin of 18,598 votes (about 15.5%).

Nandita rebelled after being denied ticket

BJP did not give ticket to former BJP minister and 2021 winner Nandita Garlosa. He has left BJP and joined Congress. BJP expressed confidence in Rupali instead of Nandita. After this Nandita rebelled and joined Congress. With this, Congress made him its candidate. NPP has fielded Daniel Langthasa as its candidate. She can also do the work of cutting votes. However, the real fight is between Congress and BJP candidates. The last election was won here by BJP, but the former MLA and minister who won the election is now the Congress candidate. This equation has made the fight here interesting.
