Most of the critics wrote that the movie was not good. Even the audience did not understand the movie in the beginning. The movie was a flop at the box office. But the movie developed a cult fan base, and more people watched the movie by pirating it. Watching and watching like that, the movie became a cult classic. It is now in the list of the 25 best Indian movies of the 21st century so far.

The popular cinema magazine ‘The Hollywood Reporter’ published a list of the 25 best Indian movies of the 2000s or the 21st century so far, and the movie ‘As Others Seen’ has got a place in that list. Apart from the fact that ‘Ulidhavaru Kandante’ also got a place in the list which has many best movies including ‘Lagaan’, ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, this is the only Kannada movie to get a place in this list.
In this list there are Malayalam movies like ‘Kumbalangi Nights’, ‘Maheshinte Pratikaram’, ‘Angamalai Diaries’, ‘Drishyam’, ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’. There are many Hindi movies like ‘Lagaan’, ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, ‘Chak De India’, ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, ‘Omkara’. There are many more Tamil movies like ‘Alaipayute’, ‘Anbe Shivam’, ‘Aadukulam’, ‘Pariaerum Perumal’. There are some Marathi movies like ‘Court’, ‘Sairat’. Telugu has ‘now’. There is a Kannada movie ‘Ulidavaru Kandante’. Apart from ‘Ulidavaru Kandante’, no other Kannada movie has made it to this list.
Rakshit Shetty has announced the movie ‘Richard Antony’ which is a spin off of the movie ‘Ulidavaru Kandante’ and it has been years since the movie was announced. Talking to the media recently, he said that he has started shooting for the movie ‘Richard Antony’. What happens next remains to be seen.
