A case has been registered against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Naveen Jain for firing in the air during the Ram Navami procession in Titlagarh in Bolangir district of Odisha. In a video, the MLA’s personal security officer (PSO) Premchand Nag was seen assisting Jain in firing the pistol. After this he was suspended on charges of dereliction of duty.

Bolangir district’s Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Himanshu Bhushan Behera said, ‘The weapon has been seized after registering an FIR. Disciplinary action is being initiated against the private security officer.
MLA said- the pistol was not real
The incident took place in Titlagarh town during the Ram Navami procession on Friday evening. In a video, the local MLA is seen firing with a pistol. Jain claimed that the pistol was not genuine. The BJP MLA also claimed that he had fired in the air to boost the morale of Ram devotees present at the rally and his intention was not to scare anyone as is being alleged.
BJD demanded arrest
Police said a case has been registered against the MLA under Section 125 of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) for endangering public safety and Section 25 of the Arms Act. Opposition party Biju Janata Dal (BJD) had on Saturday demanded Jain’s arrest for this act.
