Himachal Pradesh destruction due to rain, 69 people died

Shimla: With the onset of monsoon in Himachal Pradesh, heavy rains and disaster have caused havoc. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said on Friday that 69 people have lost their lives since the monsoon started, 37 people are missing, and 110 people have been injured. In addition, the state is estimated to have a loss of about Rs 700 crore. The Chief Minister said, ‘Roads, water projects, electrical wires and pillars have suffered heavy losses since the rains started. Electric poles have been uprooted, affecting the power supply badly.

‘Cloudburst incidents have come to light in 14 places’

Sukhu said that Himachal has witnessed heavy destruction at the beginning of the monsoon this year. He spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah in this regard, who has assured all possible assistance to the state. The Chief Minister said, ‘Today I spoke to the Home Minister. He said that the central government will give us full help. The central team is also reaching Himachal today to take stock of the loss. The Chief Minister also informed that cloudburst incidents have come to light at 14 places in the state. He said, “We are studying why cloudburst incidents are happening so much.”

‘Himachal Pradesh government stands with victim families’

CM informed that 92 students trapped in a Horticulture College in Shimla have been evacuated. Expressing condolences to the families affected by the disaster, the Chief Minister said, ‘The Himachal Pradesh government is standing with the victim families. We have decided that families whose houses have been damaged will be given assistance of Rs 5,000 to stay in a rented house. He also informed that the members of the cabinet are going to various areas and taking stock of the situation and relief work is being done fast in the affected areas.
