42 Indian Hajj pilgrims in a bus traveling from Mecca to Medina were burnt alive in a horrific road accident in Al Mufrihat area of Saudi Arabia in the wee hours of the morning. The tragedy took place around 1.30 am.
A speeding diesel tanker collided with a pilgrim bus. As a result of the collision, the diesel in the tanker spilled and the bus immediately caught fire. In this tragedy, the bus was completely burnt and 42 passengers including women and children were caught in the fire while they were sleeping.

Almost all of those cremated were from Hyderabad. As the vehicle was completely burnt, it was extremely difficult to identify the dead bodies, local officials said. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased.

After the horrific bus accident in Saudi Arabia in which 42 Indian Haj pilgrims were burnt alive, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) swung into action. The department contacted the travel agencies that took the deceased and the Saudi Bus Management Agency to gather complete information. Even if the pilgrims have left from Hyderabad, proof of their actual residence and complete identity is required. Thus, the officials of the Department of External Affairs are busy in the process of ascertaining the exact information and identity of the 42 pilgrims who have died. The department has coordinated with the Saudi authorities through the Indian Embassy and is preparing to start the process of identifying the dead bodies and bringing them to India soon.
