Amravati/Kurnool: The issue of adulteration of Tirupati laddu has become more heated in Andhra Pradesh. State Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has alleged that during the consecration of Ram temple during the reign of former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, around 1 lakh adulterated laddus were sent from Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) to Ayodhya. At the same time, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has said that Jagan government had prepared laddus by mixing bathroom cleaning chemicals instead of pure ghee. Both the leaders have termed it as playing with the faith of Lord Venkateshwara.
‘Adulterated laddus sent for the consecration of Ram temple’
Pawan Kalyan said that when the entire country was celebrating the inauguration of Ram Temple, the Jagan Mohan Reddy government sent about one lakh adulterated TTD laddus to Ayodhya. He termed it as a dirty act done on a holy occasion and asked, ‘Was it the same adulterated laddus that were caught in the investigation later?’ Pawan Kalyan quoted the investigation as saying that pure ghee was not used at all in the laddus. Instead, cheaper oils like vegetable ghee or palm oil were used. He said that a total of 59.70 to 60 lakh kilograms of such substandard material was used in the manufacturing of laddus.
‘It is wrong to send adulterated Prasad on such a religious occasion’
Pawan Kalyan said that this is not just adulteration, but completely replacing pure ghee with cheaper things. He said that lakhs of such adulterated laddus were made and distributed, out of which one lakh were sent to the Ram temple. Pawan Kalyan said, ‘It is wrong to send adulterated Prasad even on such a big religious occasion.’ He demanded complete transparency on material procurement, quality checking and political interference in TTD. Let us tell you that after the news of adulterated laddus came out, a large number of people had said on social media that this had hurt their faith.
‘Adulteration continued for 5 years in Srisailam temple also’
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu told a meeting in Kurnool district that Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government used adulterated ghee in Tirupati laddu which was laced with ‘bathroom cleaning chemicals’. He said that this hurt the reputation of Lord Venkateswara Swamy. Naidu said that this adulteration continued not only in Tirupati but also in Srisailam temple for 5 years. He cited the report of the National Dairy Development Board that in the investigation, two types of chemicals were found, one was plant based and expensive, the other was made from animal fat and was cheaper. He said that cheap fat was used because it was cheaper than pure ghee.
