Ahmedabad aircraft accident: Born in Myanmar, Vijay Rupani’s journey from Mayor to Chief Minister

In 1998, Rupani was elected General Secretary of Gujarat BJP. He was also the chairman of the ‘Manifesto Implementation Committee’ of the Government of Gujarat from 1998 to 2002.

In 2006, he became the chairman of the Gujarat Tourism Corporation and was also elected to the Rajya Sabha this year.

He became an MLA for the first time in 2014. He then won the by -election from Rajkot West seat, which was vacated after the resignation of Vajubhai Wala. The following year he was also included in the cabinet.
