Air India flight from Bengaluru to London suddenly diverted towards Jeddah

Air India’s Boeing 787-8 flight from Bengaluru to London’s Heathrow was diverted to Jeddah on Monday after being in the air for more than 6 hours due to a technical glitch. In a statement, an airline spokesperson said the aircraft has been diverted as a precautionary measure and a comprehensive technical inspection is currently being conducted as per established safety protocols.

The plane had a technical fault

The spokesperson said, ‘On March 23, Air India flight AI133 was going from Bengaluru (BLR) to London Heathrow (LHR) but due to fear of technical fault, it was diverted towards Jeddah as a precaution.

Passengers were disembarked in Jeddah

The plane landed safely at Jeddah Airport at 7:58 pm Indian time and all passengers and crew are safe. After this, all the passengers on board the plane heaved a sigh of relief.

Questions raised on security and operation

The plane had to return from Canada

On March 19, the flight (AI185) going from Delhi to Vancouver (Canada) had to return after several hours of take-off. The reason was that the Boeing 777 aircraft used did not have the necessary approval for Canada. This was considered a major operational mistake.
