Actor Dr Rajkumar, who graced the silver screen for five decades, is still ingrained in the hearts of Kannadigas. Rajkumar, who started acting as a lead actor in 1954 with the movie ‘Bedara Kannappa’, remained a co-star actor till the release of the movie ‘Shabdavedhi’ in 2000. Entertained millions of movie lovers. But Dr. Rajkumar was thinking of retirement at one stage. He had decided to retire from acting, which he loved so much. He wanted to retire many years before he acted in his last movie. But that was not possible because of his close friends.
Dr. Rajkumar was 71 years old when he acted in the movie ‘Shabdavedhi’. However, he not only acted brilliantly in that action thriller movie but also made the movie a super hit. No matter how brilliant an actor Annavru was, even though he loved acting immensely, after a certain point his body could not match his mental passion. So he decided to retire. That too, he thought of retirement long before the release of the movie ‘Shabdavedhi’.
Rajkumar had given an interview to famous film writer Chi Udayashankar in the 90s. In the interview, he talked about his retirement. Udayashankar asked a question about the acting of the movie ‘Jeevan Chaitra’ which had just been released. Responding to that, Rajkumar said, ‘I don’t know all the secrets of it. Somehow people’s desire is about me and my acting. I thought it would be better to go behind the screen while people’s desire, love and respect are there.’

‘But you and some close friends cheered me up and made me act again. I acted on your insistence and on the insistence of the lords of the audience. But this time (during Jeevan Chaitra movie) I was more afraid while acting. Because I had not stood in front of the camera for two years, so I was a bit more afraid, but a force that has been pushing me since the beginning of my career made me act with energy in this movie too.
Thus, the movie ‘Jeevan Chaitra’ was released in 1992. Annavru had already decided to retire. He had not acted in any movie for almost two years before acting in the movie ‘Jeevan Chaitra’. After acting in Jeevan Chaitra, Annavru played the lead role in three films, ‘Akasmika’ released in 1993, ‘Odahuttidavaru’ released in 1994 and his last movie ‘Shabdavedhi’ released in 2000.
