New Delhi: Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Tuesday once again issued a strict warning to Pakistan. He said that Operation Sindoor is still going on and any audacity from Pakistan in future will be given a befitting reply. General Dwivedi said that 8 terrorist camps are still active, out of which 6 are in front of LoC and 2 in front of the international border. If they do anything, we will take action based on that. In his annual press conference held in Delhi, General Dwivedi spoke in detail on the decisions taken after the Pahalgam terror attack and the success of Operation Sindoor.
‘We completely destroyed 7 out of 9 targets’
General Dwivedi said that 26 innocent people had lost their lives in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April 2025. In response, it was decided at a high level that decisive action would be taken. Under this, Operation Sindoor started on 7 May 2025, which carried out precise attacks on the hideouts of terrorists. The Army Chief said, ‘After the Pahalgam attack, a clear decision was taken at the highest level that a decisive response will be given. Operation Sindoor was implemented with great precision. In the first 22 minutes on May 7 and a total of 88 hours of action till May 10, we struck deep and broke the structure of terror and also shattered Pakistan’s nuclear threats. We completely destroyed 7 out of 9 bases.
‘Any audacity in future will be given a befitting reply’
General Dwivedi stressed that Operation Sindoor is still going on. He warned Pakistan and said, ‘If any audacity is done in future, it will be given a befitting reply.’ The Army Chief appreciated the active role of all concerned departments like CAPF, intelligence agencies, civil administration, Home Ministry, Railways etc. Referring to the increasing armed conflicts around the world in 2025, he said that only nations that are prepared win wars. He said, ‘Operation Sindoor showed India’s preparedness, precision and strategic clarity. Several steps have been taken under the Prime Minister’s slogan of Jointness, Self-reliance and Innovation (JAI), the Defense Minister declaring 2025 as the year of reform and the Decade of Army Transformation. We are satisfied with the progress made in 2025.
’31 terrorists killed in 2025, 65% of Pakistani origin’
The Army Chief said, ‘The situation on the Northern Border (LAC) is stable but vigilance is necessary. The situation is becoming normal due to high level talks and confidence building measures. Activities like grass grazing and hydrotherapy camps have started again here. Our deployment is strong and balanced. The situation on the Western Front and Jammu and Kashmir is sensitive but under control. In 2025, 31 terrorists were killed, 65 percent of whom were of Pakistani origin. All three terrorists of Pahalgam attack were killed in Operation Mahadev. Now active local terrorists are in single digits. Recruitment of terrorists has almost ended and only 2 recruitments took place in 2025.
‘There is a visible shift from terrorism to tourism’
General Dwivedi further said, ‘Development work intensified in Jammu and Kashmir, tourism returned and more than 4 lakh devotees came for Amarnath Yatra, which is more than the average of 5 years. There is a visible shift from terrorism to tourism. The decisive action of the security forces in the north-east and the government’s initiatives have led to improvements in Manipur. A multi-agency grid of Assam Rifles, Army and Home Ministry is working to protect the north-east from instability in Myanmar. With the successful phase-2 elections in Myanmar, better cooperation is now possible. In Natural Disaster Relief (HADR), the Army worked in two neighboring countries and 10 states and rescued more than 30,000 people.
‘He was told about drones coming from Pakistan’
Responding to a question related to Operation Sindoor, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi said, ‘As far as nuclear rhetoric is concerned, I would like to say that there was no discussion on nuclear in the DGMO talks and whatever nuclear rhetoric was made, it was done by the leaders of Pakistan or the general public there. I have no indication that anything like this has been said by the army. In those 88 hours, you saw that the deployment of forces to enhance conventional space was such that if Pakistan made any mistake, we were fully prepared to launch ground operations. There was a DGMO level discussion with Pakistan today, and he was asked about the drones coming from Pakistan. The Indian Army is preparing missile and rocket forces.
Army Chief also spoke on China’s comments on Shaksgam Valley
Speaking on China’s comments on Shaksgam Valley, the Army Chief said, ‘India considers the 1963 agreement between Pakistan and China as illegal. Therefore, we do not approve of any activity there. From what I understand about CPEC, we do not accept it, and we believe that this is an illegal action that is being taken by both countries.
