What is news?
Tata Motors has started work on the next generation Harrier and Safari, which have been given Torus and Leo codenames respectively. Information about their platforms and powertrain has come up. The new Flexible Architecture (NFA) is capable of using several powertrain (ICE and EV) and all-wheel drive (AWD) technology. The current Harrier and Safari are based on Tata’s Omega Architecture, which is not able to keep the AWD system.

New platform will enable AWD technology
A common complaint about the current front-wheel drive (FWD) Tata Safari is that it is not equal to the rough road capacity of the original model, as the old model was given AWD on select variants. For this reason, Tata Motors has developed a new platform. Changes in this will be like Mahindra’s NFA platforms, which are capable of using ice and electric powertrain options. Also there is a place to send drive to both axle.

The company’s 1.5-liter direct injection turbo-petrol engine has not been launched yet, but it is expected that the new generation will be included in the Harrier and Safari. An upgraded version of the current 2.0 liter diesel engine can also be given in the flagship SUV, which is taken from stalentis. It has recently gained licensing rights to the unit to develop an in-house. Electric powertrain of the current Harrier EV can also be developed.
