Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chief Tariq Rahman is going to become the Prime Minister after victory in the general elections of Bangladesh. He will take oath as Prime Minister on February 17 in Dhaka. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also received an invitation for this function. However, the Government of India has not yet officially confirmed it nor has any decision been taken regarding the Prime Minister attending the ceremony.
Invitation sent to 13 heads of state
According to the report, Mohammad Yunus, chief advisor to the interim government, has invited heads of 13 countries to attend Tariq’s swearing-in ceremony. Apart from India, these include China, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Malaysia, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives and Bhutan. It is almost certain that Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will attend this program to be organized in Dhaka.

Hindustan Times Quoting sources, it was said that the chances of Prime Minister Modi visiting Dhaka are less, as he is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Mumbai on February 17. Macron is visiting India next week to attend the AI Impact Summit. According to sources, Tariq’s swearing-in ceremony may be attended by a senior representative of India, possibly the Vice President or the Foreign Minister.
