The first FIR has been registered on wrong side driving in Delhi. With this, Delhi has become the first state in the country to register an FIR for driving on the wrong side. This first FIR has been registered in Delhi Cantt police station area. Now after the first case is registered, many more cases of action on wrong side driving may also come to light. Let us know how much punishment can be given if an FIR is registered against someone for wrong side driving.

What is the whole matter?

Actually, this case is about driving a four-wheeler at high speed in the wrong direction. The accused has been identified as Aman, resident of Shahjahanpur (UP), present address Kusumpur Pahari, Delhi. The incident occurred at 4:45 pm, near Hanuman Mandir red light. Due to wrong side driving, vehicles coming from the front were in danger. After this, FIR was registered on the complaint of ASI Sunil Kumar.

What is the provision of punishment?

In this case, an FIR has been registered against the accused under section 281 of BNS. Under BNS 281 (danger to life by rash/reckless driving), the punishment can be imprisonment up to 6 months or fine up to Rs 1,000 or both. Earlier it was known as Section 279 of IPC. In this case the accused did not have a driving license and vehicle insurance. Therefore, sections 3/181, 146, 196 of the Motor Vehicle Act have also been imposed on him.

Now there will be direct FIR in serious cases

Since these sections were bailable in the case of driving on the wrong side, the accused has been granted bail from the police station itself. Earlier in such cases only challan was issued. However, now direct FIR will be filed in serious cases. However, let us tell you that FIR will be registered only in case of serious danger. Strict action has been taken against wrong side driving especially during morning and evening peak hours. Slow speeding of a two-wheeler on a small road will usually not attract an FIR but a heavy fine.

How much was the challan for wrong side driving earlier?
