‘Clean chit’ to Elvish Yadav from Supreme Court

What is the news?

In a big relief to famous YouTuber and ‘Bigg Boss OTT’ winner Elvish Yadav, the Supreme Court has canceled the FIR registered against him. The court gave this decision on the basis of procedural flaws in this case related to the supply of snake venom. However, the court has also given the authorities the freedom to file a new complaint under the Wildlife Protection Act. Let’s know the complete news.

Criminal action against Elvish canceled

In a major legal relief to Elvish, the Supreme Court has quashed the criminal proceedings against him. This case was related to the use of snake venom in video shoots and the alleged involvement of drugs in rave parties. The court clarified that this FIR is not legally sustainable on the basis of investigation of limited legal aspects. However, the court has left the door open for filing a fresh complaint under the Wildlife Protection Act.

Talk stuck on sections of NDPS and Wildlife Act

The court observed that the FIR in this case could not be sustained on legal grounds, as cognizance of any offense under the Wildlife Protection Act can be taken only on the basis of a ‘formal complaint’ and not through a direct police FIR. The court clarified that this action being taken under specific sections of Wildlife Protection Act and NDPS Act was not legally correct. On this basis, Elvish has got relief.
