Chennai: Bird flu alert has been issued in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. Hundreds of crows have been found dead in Chennai. H5N1 virus has been confirmed in lab tests. In the test, the cause of death of crows has been said to be H5N1 i.e. bird flu. Health officials have issued advisories to the general public to prevent the spread of the disease. Authorities have directed that all carcasses of crows and poultry be either burnt or buried in deep pits as per biosecurity protocols to prevent infection with the H5N1 virus.
Government issued advisory
The advisory strictly advises the public to avoid touching or handling dead birds and urges them to immediately inform local authorities about any new cases. At the same time, the Union Animal Husbandry Ministry has written a letter to the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu asking for immediate and comprehensive field surveillance to prevent the spread of this disease.
