In the West Bengal assembly elections, BJP has given ticket to the mother of a doctor who was the victim of rape and murder in a medical college and hospital. The party has announced his name in the third list of candidates released on Wednesday. The victim’s mother Ratna Debnath will contest elections from Panihati. Apart from this, ticket has been given to Rathindranath Bose from Cooch Behar South and Dinesh Sarkar from Rajganj. There are names of 19 candidates in the third list.
Had expressed desire to contest elections
Earlier, Ratna Debnath had expressed her desire to get a ticket from BJP and contest the elections. BJP has called it a step of respect and justice towards women. Debnath had said that she wanted to contest elections to achieve justice and fight for the safety of women in West Bengal. He had said that a lot of time has passed since the brutal murder of the daughter, despite long movements and struggle, justice has not been achieved yet.
What is the rape case in RG Kar Hospital?
In the year 2024, on August 9, the dead body of a female doctor was found in RG Kar Medical College. The postmortem report confirmed rape before murder of the doctor. After this protests started across the country. Hospital volunteer Sanjay Roy was arrested in the case. CBI filed a 200-page charge sheet against Sanjay in October. Sanjay got life imprisonment in January 2025. However, the victim’s family is not satisfied.
