America accepted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not bow before anyone. America has explained why President Donald Trump is repeatedly saying that Modi is a good leader, his good friend but these days he is a little angry with him. After US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick publicly admitted that a trade deal with India was almost ready, Trump kept waiting for Modi’s call, waited for Modi’s call every Friday for three weeks, but Modi did not call. Therefore, a trade agreement could not be reached between India and America.

The US Commerce Minister revealed that Trump wanted Modi to call him and ask him to approve the draft of the trade agreement, after which America would announce the agreement, but Modi did not accept this condition. Trump was not called that is why the agreement could not be reached. Now the question is why did Trump want Modi to call him, only after that he would seal the trade agreement, and why did Modi not call? Now Trump is adopting various formulas to put pressure on India before the trade agreement, kidnapping the Venezuelan President, seizing a Russian oil tanker and signing a bill to impose 500 percent tariff on countries like India and China that buy oil from Russia. Is all this part of a strategy to subdue countries like India and Australia?

US Commerce Minister Lutnick revealed in a podcast that after becoming President, Trump signed a trade deal with Britain first, and the next was with India. All the negotiations had taken place and the terms had also been decided. Both the countries had also agreed. America was ready to greatly reduce tariffs on India under this agreement. There was only one last condition that the Prime Minister of India should call Trump and express his desire to make a trade agreement. This condition was also put before the British Prime Minister. Keir Starmer’s call came the very next day, so a deal was made with Britain. But, the Prime Minister of India did not call.

The US Commerce Minister said that Trump waited for Prime Minister Modi’s call for three weeks, Modi did not call, and that is why the trade agreement could not be reached. Trump had said the same thing in gestures while addressing Republican Party MPs two days ago. He had said that these days Modi is a little angry with him. At that time he had tried to spin the issue by linking Modi’s displeasure to tariffs, but today his Commerce Minister revealed the secret. Today India responded in a diplomatic tone to Howard Lutnick’s revelations. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that India wants to make a trade agreement with America but any agreement will be done keeping in mind the interests of India. Jaiswal said that as far as a call is concerned, Trump and Modi spoke on phone 8 times last year.

On the bill imposing 500 percent tariff on countries like India and China buying oil from Russia, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that which bill America makes and how much tariff it imposes is America’s decision, but India takes decisions according to its fuel needs and the world market, it does not matter what any other country is doing. The words of America’s Commerce Minister prove that Modi did not come under pressure from Trump. India did not bow before America. For Modi, the self-respect of the country is more important and paramount than the trade agreement. Anyway, India is the fourth largest economy in the world today. Neither can anyone bow down to Modi, nor can anyone stop India from moving forward. (Rajat Sharma)
