Taapsee Pannu, who started her career with the Telugu film ‘Jhummandinadam’ and is shining as a star actress in Bollywood today, has now become a new controversy for her words about the South Indian film industry. In an interview given during the promotion of her new film ‘Assi’, she spoke about the embarrassing demands placed on actresses in southern films. But netizens are going to express their displeasure with Taapsee’s statement.
Speaking in an interview, Taapsee said, ‘In southern films, directors force actresses to wear padded bras to make them look glamorous. Girls are often not present on the set, so the director communicates this to the stylists through the assistant director, and then it reaches us. They don’t think how embarrassing it would be to go and change clothes in the middle of shooting a song.”
Answering a question about showing navels in South Indian and Bhojpuri movies, he said, ‘Southern cinema has a special love for navels, they pay attention to show navels of actresses. In Bollywood, showing off the chest of actresses is preferred. In southern movies, showing the navel is portrayed as a symbol of lust. This is something I still don’t understand.’

This is not the first time that Taapsee Pannu is talking about the South Indian film industry, earlier Taapsee also talked about her first Telugu movie, and in that movie, she had humorously told about the incident where a coconut was thrown on her navel. Raghavendra Rao, who is also the director of that movie, also talked trivially about him. It was a big controversy and he even apologized later. Repeatedly making similar statements has upset the South Indian fans.
These statements of Taapsee are being strongly opposed on social media. Comments are pouring in that ‘even though the name and money has been made from South movies, now it is not right to criticize the same film industry, it is not right to talk bad about the film industry for the promotion of your film’. Many are citing the point that there are many examples of women being portrayed as objects in Bollywood too.
