Canada will give uranium to India, target of $50 billion trade: PM Modi

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is on a visit to India till March 2. Today on Monday, he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi. The two top leaders met at Hyderabad House. During this, both the leaders shook hands and got photographed and then the bilateral meeting started between them. After the meeting, the top leaders of both the countries held a joint press conference. During this, PM Modi said, “India-Canada Pulse Protein Center of Excellence will be established in India. The growing cooperation in the field of defense and security is a symbol of our deep mutual trust and maturity of relationships. We will work to enhance defense industries, maritime domain awareness and military exchanges. For this purpose, today we have decided to establish India-Canada Defense Dialogue.”

The Prime Minister expressed happiness, saying, “We are pleased that Canada has decided to join the International Solar Alliance and the Global Biofuel Alliance. To further our joint efforts, we will organize the ‘India-Canada Renewable Energy and Storage Summit’ this year. In the field of civil nuclear energy, we have signed a historic agreement for the long-term supply of uranium. We will also work together on small modular reactors and advanced reactors.”

PM Modi further said, “With the India-Canada Innovation Partnership, we will transform ideas into global solutions. I thank Prime Minister Carney for Canada’s valuable contribution to the success of the ‘AI Impact Summit’ held in India last month. We will expand cooperation in AI as well as quantum, supercomputing and semiconductors.”

He said, “The MoU signed today on Critical Minerals will strengthen the resilience of the supply chain. In the space sector, we will connect startups and industries of both the countries. In the energy sector, we are building a next generation partnership, which will give special emphasis on hydrocarbons as well as renewable energy, green hydrogen and energy storage.”

Concern over the situation in the Middle East

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “India’s stand on the many ongoing tensions in the world is clear. We have always called for maintaining peace and stability and when two democracies stand together, the voice of peace becomes even stronger.”

He further said, “The current situation in West Asia is a matter of deep concern to us. India supports resolution of all disputes through dialogue and diplomacy. We will continue to work closely with all countries to ensure the safety of all Indian citizens in the region.”
