Car punch escape: Senior actor arrested

A hit and run case has been registered against Manianpilla Raju, who is known as a veteran Malayalam actor and producer. A car driven by Manianpilla Raju collided with a bike in Thiruvananthapuram, seriously injuring two young men on the bike. The incident took place in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday night, February 5.

The accident took place on February 5 at around 9:30 pm near ‘Trivandrum Club’ in Vazhutakad, Thiruvananthapuram. The car driven by Manianpilla Raju (KL-01-CJ-0004) collided with Suraj and Nivedit Krishna, two youths in their 20s who were riding a Royal Enfield bike. Due to the accident, the youths fell on the road, one suffered a leg fracture and the other suffered serious head and spine injuries.

Immediately after the accident, actor Raju fled the scene without helping the injured. Based on the number plate of the car found at the accident site, the police started an investigation. Raju, who was initially absconding, appeared at the Museum police station on Friday morning. The police took him into custody and subjected him to medical examination. It is said that Manianpilla Raju was driving the car fast and recklessly at the time of the accident. The police have sent the actor’s blood sample for testing and if it is confirmed that the actor had consumed alcohol during the incident, a complaint will be filed under additional sections.

Raju, who gave a statement before the police, admitted, “The bike came at a high speed and hit my car. After the accident, I was panicked. I did not know what to do at that moment and left from there.” Also, she was recovering from cancer and suffering from chicken pox and my wife was also alone at home. So he said he could not help at that time. He said, ‘I left there at that moment but called someone else to help the injured’.

Police have now registered a case under the Indian Penal Code (BNS) and the Motor Vehicle Act on charges of negligent driving and absconding without giving information about the accident. Additional cases will be registered against the actor if it is confirmed that the actor was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
