Actor and Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay’s troubles may increase in the Karur stampede case. CBI has issued a notice to TVK chief Vijay asking him to appear for questioning at the agency’s headquarters in New Delhi on January 12. CBI is investigating the Karur stampede case.
CBI may file charge sheet soon
The CBI has already interrogated top TVK leaders after the Supreme Court handed over the probe to the investigating agency in October last year. Officials said that the agency has now decided to summon Vijay in connection with this case, after which it can take a decision on filing a charge sheet in this case.
Vijay had apologized to the victims’ families
The Karur stampede occurred on 27 September 2025 during a political rally of Vijay at Veluswamypuram in Karur. Several factors, including poor crowd management and delay in Vijay’s arrival at the venue, are believed to have led to the stampede, which claimed 41 lives and left many others injured. The actor, who had launched his party’s political campaign in view of the assembly elections a few months ago, had to face widespread criticism after this incident. In October last year, Vijay met the families of the victims and apologized for the incident.
CBI is investigating the case
Since taking over the investigation, the CBI has been examining the permissions granted for the event, crowd management measures, police deployment and emergency response, and is also recording statements of TVK officials and officials. Those who appeared before the agency in the case include TVK state general secretary Bussi Anand, joint secretaries Nirmal Kumar and Adhav Arjun, and Karur West district secretary Mathiyazhagan.
Soon after the Karur stampede, the Madras High Court directed the Tamil Nadu government to draft and submit a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for political rallies and public gatherings to improve the safety protocols for large events.
