Finnish President Alexander Stubb says that there can be a ceasefire between Iran and America on the initiative of India. He has suggested that India could intervene in the ongoing conflict between Iran and America. He said that we have seen Foreign Minister Jaishankar appealing for talks and ceasefire. Due to this war, global energy is in crisis. Oil prices are skyrocketing. Stubb said this in an interview on Bloomberg Television on Monday.
“We saw Secretary of State Jaishankar calling for a ceasefire and talks to calm down and stabilize the situation,” Stubb said in an interview, underscoring how complicated the triangular conflict between the US, Israel and Iran makes things. Stubb also appealed to NATO allies to pay attention to US President Donald Trump regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Countries that want to help will definitely do so. Let us tell you that on Sunday, Trump had stressed that NATO and their allies in Asia should help in ensuring that the consignments of oil and gas continue to pass through this important waterway without any obstruction.
Jaishankar’s talks with Iran
Alexander Stubb also recently visited India and participated in the Raisina Dialogue. These comments of Stubb come amid the ongoing fierce conflict between Iran and America, which is also affecting other Gulf countries. What has further increased the concerns is the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. One-fifth of the world’s oil consumption passes through this route, and it is a vital waterway for many countries, including India.
Stubb, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. He was referring to Jaishankar’s recent conversation with his Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi. It was only after this conversation that some Indian-flagged ships were allowed to pass through the vital Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf.
In an interview with the Financial Times, Jaishankar had recently clarified that Iran did not get anything in return for allowing the ships to pass. He said that India and Iran have always had cordial relations. He added, “And we consider this conflict extremely unfortunate.”
Can India help America in securing Hormuz?
The Finnish Prime Minister is not the first person to suggest that India’s intervention could defuse the conflict between Iran and the US. On Sunday, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright indicated that India could help the US secure the Strait of Hormuz. This is an important oil route, where US President Donald Trump wants the country’s allies to send their warships, so that this route continues to function normally.
When asked if he could name specific countries that would help secure the Strait of Hormuz, Wright declined to make any formal announcement, but did mention India in his answer. “The whole world is dependent on flows from the Strait of Hormuz, and most importantly, Asian countries like Japan, Korea, China, Thailand, India, get a major part of their total energy supply from the Strait of Hormuz,” he said.
