Central government responded to the Dalai Lama’s successor case

India has clarified its stand on the successor of Tibetan Buddhist spiritual head and 14th Dalai Lama Tenjin Gyatso. In a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs on Friday, it was said that the Government of India does not take any stand on matters related to faith, religion beliefs and practices. The ministry said that the government has always retained the freedom of religion for all in India and will continue so.

Prior to India’s statement, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said in a press conference that India should be clear from the 14th Dalai Lama’s anti -China separatist nature and should respect its commitments on issues related to Shijang. He had asked India to avoid caution in words, Shijang related issues to stop interference in internal affairs of China and to avoid impacting the improvement and development of China-India relations.
