New Delhi: Severe cold and dense fog continue to wreak havoc in the northern states of the country, but the good news is that there is going to be gradual relief from the cold. According to meteorologists, the grip of winter is weakening as the Sun moves towards Uttarayan. Makar Sankranti is traditionally considered to be the end of the peak of winter, and this year too the temperatures may start rising after the next 2 nights. However, fog will still remain a challenge in the morning.

No major change in weather today

According to the Meteorological Department, no major change is visible in the weather of the country today. Hilly areas of northern India will remain cloudy, including the western Himalayan region. Big cities like Delhi, Jaipur, Bhopal, Lucknow, Patna and Ranchi will not see very dense fog, but light fog may occur. Local level fog is possible around Gwalior, Bharatpur and Agra. Light to dense fog will persist in Punjab and North Haryana up to Karnal, Ambala, Panchkula and Chandigarh. Similar situation will prevail in North Rajasthan and North Western Uttar Pradesh.

There will be fog in the plains in the morning

In Uttar Pradesh, areas like Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Pilibhit, Moradabad, Rampur, Saharanpur, Najibabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar and Bulandshahr will remain foggy till late morning. Visibility is expected to improve as time passes. A new Western Disturbance is expected to arrive in the hilly areas from January 15, which may bring good snowfall in the higher areas from January 15 to 30, but it will not have any impact today. There will be fog in the plains in the morning.

There will be pleasant sunshine during the day in many areas

North-westerly winds will continue to blow over Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar. These winds will maintain severe cold at night and morning, while there will be pleasant sunshine during the day. There may be light rain in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu in South India. Very light rain is also likely over Coastal Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, South-Central Maharashtra and parts of Coastal Maharashtra. Weather will remain normal at other places.

The temperature will be like this in different cities of the country

Talking about the temperature of different cities, the maximum temperature in Delhi will be 16 degree Celsius and the minimum will be 06 degree Celsius. The day will be very hot in Mumbai, where the maximum can reach 29 degrees and the minimum can reach 24 degrees. The maximum temperature in Chennai will be 28 degrees and minimum 23 degrees, while the maximum temperature in Kolkata is expected to be 22 degrees and minimum 12 degrees. The maximum temperature in Lucknow can be 17 degrees and minimum 07 degrees, and in Patna the maximum temperature can be 16 degrees and minimum 08 degrees.
