Binnakandi Assembly Elections 2026: The dates for Assam assembly elections have been announced. Voting will take place here in a single phase. Voting will be held in Assam on April 9 along with the voting in Kerala and Union Territory Puducherry. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been in power in the northeastern state of Assam since 2016. However, Binnakandi assembly seat of Assam is in the news this time. This time the contest is being considered triangular. At present there are a total of 126 assembly seats in Assam including Binnakandi. In such a situation, it remains to be seen whose government will be there.
All parties ready to establish dominance
Let us tell you that Binnakandi assembly seat was formed in 2023, voting is being held on this seat for the first time. Binnakandi assembly seat is part of Hojai district of Assam. Binnakandi assembly seat comes under Kaziranga Lok Sabha constituency, which also includes nine other assembly constituencies. Although elections are being held on this seat for the first time, all the parties have put in all their strength to win the elections on this seat.
Who are facing each other in the elections?
Political analysts have their eyes fixed on Binnakandi assembly seat as All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) president Badruddin Ajmal is contesting from this seat. However, Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) candidate Sahabuddin Majumdar and Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) leader Rezaul Karim Choudhary are also fully prepared to give him competition. The three leaders seem to be facing a tough challenge from each other. This triangular contest has made the election of Binnakandi seat interesting.
AGP and AJP will face competition from AIUDF
Actually, AJP is in alliance with Congress, while AGP is part of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Despite this, AIUDF candidate Badruddin Ajmal is confident of his victory. He also claimed that the AIUDF, founded in 2005, will win around 25 of the 30 seats it is contesting. He had recently said, “We want to remove the BJP from power. I urge all non-BJP parties to unite and try to remove the BJP from power.”
BJP looking for hat-trick, Congress hopeful of comeback
In Assam, BJP is trying to come to power for the third consecutive time under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Bharatiya Janata Party has been in power in Assam since 2016. In the last elections of 2021, BJP had formed the government by winning 60 seats with the support of its alliance partners. On the other hand, if we talk about Congress, Assam was once the stronghold of this old party. The party was in power here from 2001 to 2016 under the leadership of Tarun Gogoi. But now after almost a decade of being in opposition, Congress is trying to regain its lost ground. For this, the party is contesting the elections under the leadership of Tarun Gogoi’s son Gaurav Gogoi, who has been made the candidate from Jorhat assembly constituency.
