Assam Assembly Election 2026: Jorhat seat of Assam has become the main center of politics this time. A tough contest is being seen between BJP and Congress on this seat. Political veterans of both BJP and Congress political parties are in the fray from Jorhat seat. Congress’s Gaurav Gogoi is contesting against BJP’s Hitendra Nath Goswami. Gogoi is an MP and is contesting the assembly elections for the first time. Veteran BJP leader Hitendra Nath Goswami has won this seat five times and he is contesting for the sixth time to win from this seat.

While Gaurav Gogoi has entered the political battle of assembly elections for the first time, Hitendra Nath Goswami is considered to have a strong hold in Jorhat. On one hand, Gaurav Gogoi is calling this election an election to save Assam. Whereas BJP’s Hitendra Nath is saying that Gaurav Gogoi did not get any development done in this area while he was an MP. Now it will be interesting to see in whose favor the people of Jorhat vote and make him victorious. Let us tell you that voting for the assembly elections in Assam will be held on April 9 and counting of votes will take place on May 4.
Gaurav Gogoi will be able to save his father’s legacy
Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi is the Assam Pradesh Congress President and also leads the party and the six-party alliance in the state. The opposition party is also considering him as the face of the post of CM and that is why he has been fielded from Jorhat seat in the assembly elections. Gaurav Gogoi, 43, is calling on the people of Jorhat to carry forward the legacy of his father and former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who has a deep connection with Jorhat. Winning the Jorhat seat is associated with prestige for the Congress.
Hitendra will be able to win Jorhat for the sixth time
Veteran BJP leader Hitendra Nath Goswami has been contesting elections from Jorhat seat continuously since 1991 and has won on BJP ticket in 2016 and 2021. BJP’s Hitendra Nath Goswami has made his clean image and development work in the area an election issue. Hitendra Nath says that Gaurav is not my opponent but like a brother. But as an MP, he did not pay much attention to the development of the area.
