Four Congress workers arrested

Four Congress workers in Assam have been arrested for allegedly possessing and transporting “inflammatory” pamphlets containing allegations against Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma. Congress has raised questions on these allegations and termed this action as undemocratic. According to the police, the accused were found with posters and pamphlets, which were to be distributed widely. The police said the pamphlets allegedly contained “provocative and obnoxious allegations” that could affect public peace and the election atmosphere. The Congress said the allegations made in the leaflets were part of a 20-point “charge sheet” issued by the party’s Assam unit on February 19 ahead of the assembly elections. Police said the four were arrested after a large quantity of printed pamphlets were recovered from a vehicle in Rukminigaon area. He is currently in judicial custody. State Congress Media Department President Devvrat Bora questioned the allegations against the workers and said that criticism of any Chief Minister cannot be seen as anti-national activity. “The suspicious pamphlets were part of the 20-point charge sheet that was released by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra,” Bora said.
