Delhi Police Special Cell has interrogated Penguin India’s team in the book leak case of former Army Chief MM Naravane. The Special Cell issued a notice and asked 15 important questions and company representatives were called for questioning. Penguin India has answered some questions, the company asked for additional time to answer some questions. The Special Cell will now analyze the answers given by Penguin India to see whether there is conspiracy or negligence behind the leak, which will be revealed after investigation. At the same time, the case of Naravane’s book leak seems to be moving in the direction of a serious conspiracy. According to sources, initial investigation has indicated that the book was leaked in a planned manner without the mandatory clearance from the Ministry of Defence.
What did Penguin India say?
Amid the ongoing controversy over former Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane’s autobiography ‘Four Stars of Destiny’, publishing company ‘Penguin Random House India’ had issued a clarification on Monday. The publication clarified that this book has not been published yet nor has it been publicly distributed in any print, digital or any other form. Penguin India also said that any copy available in any format is a copyright infringement and legal action will be taken.
This notice was issued to Penguin after reports of alleged pre-print copies of the book being circulated on social media and some websites. Police confirmed that a PDF copy, allegedly prepared by Penguin, was found available on online platforms.
Why was there controversy regarding the book?
The controversy over Naravane’s book escalated when Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, showed an alleged copy of the book and tried to read quotes from it during the budget session. On this, the ministers of the ruling party stood up against it and the Speaker did not allow reading of extracts from the book as it was not published. After this there was an uproar in the House and the proceedings were disrupted several times.
