A case of caste discrimination has come to light in the Arasamma temple located in Goni village of Turuvekere taluk of Tumkuru district of Karnataka. It is alleged that a Dalit family was insulted and thrown out of the temple premises. This whole matter also reached the police. Police has taken action in this matter.
Dalit couple thrown out by upper caste man
According to the information, recently a Dalit couple got married and had come to visit the temple. Meanwhile, a person named Narayanappa, belonging to an upper caste, pretended to be in a state of ‘passion’ by claiming himself to be the incarnation of a deity and asked the Dalit family to leave the temple, claiming that they were not allowed to enter the temple.
Video of the incident surfaced
It is alleged that the family was scolded and thrown out of the temple premises. Someone recorded the video of the incident on a mobile phone, which later went viral on social media.
Police registered a case
Hurt by the incident, victim Jagadish lodged a complaint at Turuvekere police station. Police have registered an FIR under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Act against Narayanappa, Prabha, Kantanna, Amulya, Puttegowda, Padma and others.
Main accused arrested
Police have arrested the main accused Narayanappa, while the search for other accused is on. The matter is being further investigated. After this incident, there is a lot of resentment among the Dalit people of the village and surrounding areas.
