Madurai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated, laid the foundation stone of several important infrastructure projects worth more than Rs 4400 crore and dedicated them to the nation in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. It is believed that these projects will improve connectivity in the state, strengthen the economy, create new jobs and change the lives of millions of people. PM Modi’s visit to Tamil Nadu is being considered very important before the assembly elections to be held in the next few months in Tamil Nadu. PM Modi also addressed the people during this period.
‘Developed Tamil Nadu is the goal for developed India’
Prime Minister Modi said, ‘Our collective goal is a developed Tamil Nadu for a developed India. Every Indian is motivated to build a developed nation by 2047. Tamil Nadu will play a decisive role in shaping the future of the nation. The Central Government will remain fully committed to ensuring inclusive development and progress of the State. Historical sites like Adichanallur will be developed as world heritage sites. The eco-tourism initiative around Pulicat Lake and Podhigai Malai will conserve the natural ecosystems as well as create new employment opportunities.’

Describing the glory of Madurai, he said, ‘I feel proud to be in the holy and historical city of Madurai. I bow to Meenakshi Amman and Lord Sundareshwar. Today’s event marks a proud chapter in the development journey of Tamil Nadu. We have laid the foundation stone, inaugurated and dedicated projects worth more than Rs 4400 crore to the nation. These projects will transform connectivity, boost the economy, create employment and transform the lives of millions of people.
PM Modi inaugurated many development projects
PM Modi said that Tamil Nadu has got the benefit of 9 ‘Vande Bharat’ trains and 9 ‘Amrit Bharat’ trains, whose coaches are made at ICF in Chennai. “Funding for Tamil Nadu’s infrastructure has tripled over the last decade,” he said. Bengaluru-Chennai and Chennai-Hyderabad bullet train corridors are proposed in the budget of 2026, which will revolutionize the economy of the entire region. During this, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for four-laning of Markannam-Puducherry section and Paramakudi-Ramanathapuram section of main national highways. Apart from inaugurating 8 renovated railway stations in Tamil Nadu, he handed over many more projects to the public.
NDA may benefit in Tamil Nadu elections
This visit of Prime Minister Modi has come just before the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, where the NDA led by BJP and AIADMK is trying to show a strong performance.
