Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expanded his cabinet on Friday. The swearing-in ceremony of the new ministers was held at Lok Bhavan. During this, five MLAs took oath as ministers. The MLAs who took oath as ministers include Dehradun MLA Khajan Das, Rudraprayag MLA Bharat Chaudhary, Haridwar MLA Madan Kaushik, Roorkee MLA Pradeep Batra and Nainital MLA Ram Singh Kaida. All these MLAs took oath as ministers at Lok Bhavan. Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh (Retd) administered the oath of office and secrecy to the ministers at a ceremony held at Lok Bhavan.

Chief Minister Dhami congratulated the new ministers

On taking oath as ministers of five leaders after the cabinet expansion, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, “First of all, I would like to congratulate all those respected persons who have been given the responsibility of the Council of Ministers today. I extend my best wishes to all of them. All of them have been working in the political and social fields for a long time. Together with them we will contribute to realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Developed India’ and all these dignitaries will play an important role in achieving this goal. Will fulfill.” This morning, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met BJP MLAs Khajan Das (Dehradun), Madan Kaushik (Haridwar), Pradeep Batra (Roorkee), Bharat Chaudhary (Rudraprayag) and Ram Singh Kaida (Nainital) at Raj Bhavan, who took the oath of office.

There may be 12 ministers in the cabinet

As per constitutional provisions, the state cabinet in Uttarakhand can have a maximum of 12 members. In the past too, speculations regarding cabinet expansion in the state had been raised many times, but nothing materialized. When the BJP begins its second term in Uttarakhand in 2022, Dhami took the oath of office along with eight ministers. The strength of the cabinet reduced to eight after the demise of Social Welfare and Transport Minister Chandan Ramdas in April 2023. Last year, this number further reduced to seven after the resignation of Parliamentary Affairs and Finance in-charge Prem Chand Agarwal.
