Renowned Kannada film director, screenwriter and producer R. Manipur International University (MIU) has announced to confer an Honorary Doctorate (Doctor of Letters – D.Litt.) on Chandru. This honor is being conferred in recognition of his versatile achievements in the field of film art, cultural excellence and social service.
The son of an ordinary farmer who came to Bangalore from a small village called Keshavwara in Shidlaghatta taluk of Chikkaballapur district with just one hundred rupees, today he runs a multi-million rupee business. The University appreciated that ‘Chandru’ has grown into a brand that has inspired the youth.
From emotional films like ‘Taj Mahal’, ‘Charminar’ to ‘Kabja’, which flew the Kannada flag across 4,000 screens across the country, his artistic journey is unprecedented. Not only as a director but also as a ‘giver’ who has given employment to hundreds of people through ‘RC Studios’.
The University has given special consideration to his efforts in rainwater harvesting and greening of dry land through modern farming practices in Shidlaghat, planting of one lakh saplings and his humanitarian work during the Covid-19 pandemic.
This message has been shared by the chancellor of the university, Prof. Dr. Harikumar Pallathadka said, “This honor is given with the intention of uniting the pride of South India and the spirit of North East India”. R. at the next convocation or special function of the University. Chandru will be officially conferred with this degree.
It is an autonomous statutory international university established by the Government of Manipur and recognized by the UGC. He said the institute is at the forefront of research and innovation in North East India.
