New Delhi: It is harsh winter in Delhi-NCR. Delhi recorded its first cold day of the year on Tuesday as the maximum temperature dropped sharply, leaving the national capital feeling quite cold. Similar conditions are likely to persist on Wednesday also.

There will be severe winter in these states

The Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave warning in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Western Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Sikkim during the next 24 hours. In fact, parts of the northern and Himalayan states of the country are already witnessing cold days and temperatures have fallen to new lows in many areas. ‘Yellow’ alert of cold wave has been issued in the districts of Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla and Chatra of Jharkhand.

At the same time, in West Bengal, the coldest day of January was recorded in the capital Kolkata with 10.2 degrees Celsius. The weather department’s forecast says that the cold will increase further in southern West Bengal in the next few days.

Where will the dense fog fall?

The Meteorological Department said that during 07-09 January, there is a possibility of dense fog in the morning in some parts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh and there is a possibility of dense fog in isolated areas for the next 4 days. Dense fog may occur in some parts of western Rajasthan in the morning on January 7.

Minimum temperature in Rajgarh 2.0°C

Minimum temperatures are being recorded below 0°C at many places in Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad. It is below 0-5°C at some places in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. 5°-10°C was recorded at many places in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha. The lowest minimum temperature of 2.0°C was recorded in Rajgarh (Western Madhya Pradesh) in the plains of India.

Rain and snowfall alert

Light rain and snow is very likely at isolated places over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on January 7, 2026.
