Flights were disrupted for several hours at Chennai airport on Sunday morning. Low visibility due to fog was the main reason for this. At least three flights coming to Chennai were diverted to nearby airports. Due to this the passengers looked quite upset.
Changed routes of flights
Giving more details about the matter, officials said that there was moderate to dense fog at Chennai airport in the early hours of Sunday and there were minor delays in some flights. The routes of some flights were also changed.
Visibility remained at 150 meters in the morning
“There was moderate to dense fog at Chennai Meenambakkam airport early today,” an official said. Visibility was around 1500 meters at 5:30 AM Indian time, which reduced to 350 meters by 6:30 AM and due to fog, the visibility further reduced to 150 meters by around 7:30 AM.
Flights diverted towards Tiruchirappalli
Visibility is expected to improve later, he said. Two flights coming from Kuala Lumpur and Hyderabad were diverted to Tiruchirappalli, while another private flight returned to Bengaluru.
