Bangalore: Chikkajala police in Bengaluru has arrested an accused named Devaraj who was defrauding farmers on the pretext of renting tractors.
Accused Devaraj used to contact farmers and ask them to rent their tractors. He promised to rent each tractor ₹30,000 per month. In this connection, he also made an agreement with the farmers and gained trust. The farmers, who were expecting better income, trusted Devaraja and gave him their tractors.

Devaraja initially paid the rent for the tractors only for a couple of months. Later, these tractors were sold to farmers in Bagepally and border areas of Karnataka at low prices. When the rent was not paid on time, the farmers questioned Devaraj. When asked to pay or return the tractors, the accused would run away. The farmers, who were cheated by this, filed a complaint at the Chikkajala police station.
After registering the complaint, the police investigated and arrested the accused Devaraj under IPC Section 420. During the interrogation, the accused Devaraja is known to have made a statement that “the work of cheating is onthara thrillu swami, thrillu”. Chikkajala police conducted a swift operation and recovered 10 tractors sold by the accused and returned them to the original farmers.
