Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma has made several serious allegations against Congress MP Gaurav Gogai and his wife Elizabeth Colburn Gogoi and has sent a recommendation to the Central Government to investigate their Pakistan connections by a central agency. He claimed that Elizabeth Colburn was working in Pakistan during 2011-12 and traveled to Pakistan a total of 9 times. According to the CM, “She was very close to a Pakistani national named Ali Tauqeer Shaikh. When we asked Elizabeth questions about this, she refused to answer.”

Gogoi had gone to Pakistan Embassy with the youth

Himanta Vishwa Sharma fiercely attacked Gaurav Gogoi in a press conference today. He said that Gaurav Gogoi had gone to Pakistan Embassy with the youth and that picture went viral. He spent a lot of time there. I couldn’t believe it after seeing this picture. After that we started investigation. No other Congress leader would have gone with the Pakistan Embassy delegation. After this Abdul Basit also came to Assam. After the SIT report, the Assam Cabinet decided that an investigation should be conducted by a central agency and hence we have written to the Home Ministry.

Was any special training given?

Himanta Vishwa Sharma said that Gaurav had got visa only for Lahore, but after reaching there, Pakistan Home Ministry itself intervened and called him to Islamabad and Karachi. Why did an ordinary citizen get this ‘red carpet’ welcome in Pakistan? During those 10 days, Gaurav Gogoi was on ‘digital silence’. Was he given any special training there?

SIT report sent to Home Ministry

Let us tell you that the Assam government had also constituted an SIT to investigate the alleged anti-India conspiracy by Pakistani citizen Ali Tauqeer Shaikh in collaboration with State Congress President Gogoi and his wife. The SIT submitted its report to Sharma, who also holds the charge of the Home Department, on September 10 last year. The Chief Minister had initially fixed September 10 as the date for presenting evidence in support of his allegations against Gogoi.

Deep bond between Gaurav, his wife and Ali Tauqeer Shaikh

Himanta Vishwa Sharma said, “We believe that there is a deep connection between Gaurav, his wife and Ali Tauqeer Shaikh. We recommend investigation by a central agency.” He claimed that a Pakistani company employed Elizabeth and then transferred her to India while her salary was paid by the Sheikh. Sharma and the BJP have been attacking Gogoi over his wife’s alleged links with Pakistan’s spy agency ISI. The Assam Cabinet on Saturday had decided to hand over the case of Gogoi’s alleged Pakistani links to the Home Ministry.
