Get an impartial investigation done in the POCSO Act case registered against Swami Avimukteshwaranand.

Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai has written a letter to Prime Minister Modi demanding a fair and transparent investigation into the POCSO Act case registered against Jyotishpeeth’s Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Ji. Ajay Rai has written that this matter should be investigated by an independent agency. Ajay Rai has written in his letter that this action took place when Swamiji had cornered the state government on the irregularities in the Kumbh Mela, which directly smacks of ‘political vendetta’. Congress clearly believes that the religious autonomy granted under Articles 25-26 and the orders of the Supreme Court should be respected.

Ajay Rai wrote, “Making the dignity of any spiritual post a weapon of political rivalry is against both democracy and the Constitution. We demand that an investigation should be conducted by an independent or central agency so that milk can be separated from milk and water hunters should stop trying to suppress the voice of saints!” He alleged that CM Yogi’s administration is adopting unnecessary harshness. This is sending a wrong message to the society.

Appeal to PM Modi for intervention

Ajay Rai in his letter has appealed to PM Modi to intervene immediately. He wrote, “Prime Minister, if the circumstances arising against a top religious leader give rise to the impression that there is an unnecessary conflict between governance and spiritual tradition, then this may give rise to a feeling of dissatisfaction and pain in the wider religious society. The question being raised in the Indian society is whether the actions being taken by the Uttar Pradesh government under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath ji are motivated by unnecessary harshness or vindictiveness. If so, then it not only tarnishes the image of the state, but also the governance of the central government. Capacity may also be questioned. It is very important to resolve any such notion in time. This issue is related to faith, constitutional rights and impartiality of governance.
