Government will include AI tools in education

What is the news?

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is increasing rapidly. Keeping this in mind, the central government is now planning to include AI tools in studies soon. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said that from the next session the use of AI will be increased from pre-primary to higher education. In this direction, AI Center of Excellence for education has been started in IIT-Madras with a budget of Rs 500 crore.

Bodhan AI and Bharat EduAI Stack

Under this initiative, a not-for-profit company named Bodhan AI will develop the Bharat EduAI stack. It will be developed as a digital public infrastructure, just like UPI works for payments. This system will create tools like speech recognition and speech synthesis in Indian languages. These tools will be delivered to schools and colleges in collaboration with state governments and edtech companies, so that solutions can be found as per local needs.

How will students and teachers get benefits?

The focus of AI tools will be to help students achieve personalized learning in their mother tongue. Students will be able to do voice based exercises on mobile, tablet or laptop. The system will identify their mistakes and give suggestions for improvement. Teachers will get reports and feedback, so that they can guide better. The administration will also be able to understand on the basis of data which school or district needs improvement.

Data security and planning ahead

Experts have made it clear that the personal data of students will be kept secure and will not be collected on public platforms. If needed, the data will remain safe on the student’s device only. This entire framework will be based on the framework of NEP 2020 and NCERT- SCERT. The most important goal of the Government of India right now is to create an indigenous and secure AI infrastructure, which state governments and startups can jointly advance in the future.
