Harish Rana dies in Delhi AIIMS, euthanized after being in coma for 13 years

Harish Rana, the first person to get permission for passive euthanasia in India, has passed away at AIIMS-Delhi after being in a coma for more than 13 years. Let us tell you that as part of the process of passive euthanasia, his nutritional support was stopped for the last several days. Under the supervision of doctors, he was being given pain relieving medicines so that his last journey could be completed without any pain.

Supreme Court had given permission for euthanasia

The Supreme Court of India, i.e. the Supreme Court, had given a big verdict in the Harish Rana case on March 11. The Supreme Court, while giving its verdict on the demand of giving passive euthanasia (euthanasia) to Harish Rana of Ghaziabad, who was lying on the bed in an unconscious state for the last 13 years, had approved his euthanasia. The court had said that Harish Rana will be admitted to the palliative care of AIIMS so that medical treatment can be withdrawn. Let us tell you that this is the first case of passive euthanasia in India.

Was admitted to AIIMS on March 14

Harish Rana was admitted to Delhi AIIMS on 14 March. His liquid diet was stopped on March 15 and water was also stopped from March 17. As a result, he had neither food nor water for the last 10 days.

We cannot keep the boy in immense suffering – Supreme Court

While approving passive euthanasia to Harish Rana, the Supreme Court had said that it should be ensured that this process is completed with dignity. Supreme Court Justice Pardiwala had said that this is a very sad report. This is a difficult decision for us. But we cannot keep this boy in immense sorrow like this. We are at that stage where today we have to take the final decision.

How did Harish reach this situation?

Harish Rana of Ghaziabad was lying unconscious for about 13 years. According to the information, Harish, who was studying in Chandigarh, fell from the fourth floor of his hostel in 2013. Due to this he suffered serious head injuries. Since then he was continuously unconscious in bed. Due to continuous lying in bed, wounds had formed on his body.

Parents had given up hope

Harish Rana’s parents had given up hope of their son’s recovery. Harish had become a victim of 100 percent disability. In such a situation, his parents had demanded the court to give him euthanasia. After the decision was taken, his life saving equipment was gradually removed and today he breathed his last.
