Heavy rains cause landslides in Sikkim, around 150 to 200 tourists stranded in Chungthang

Chungthang: Heavy rains in Sikkim have caused landslides at many places, due to which about 150 to 200 tourists are stranded in Chungthang. District Collector Anant Jain has given this information. Jain said that landslides have occurred on the major roads connecting Gangtok to Lachen and Chungthang to Lachen, due to which tourists going to Lachen are stuck in Chungthang.

Tourists accommodated in ITBP camp and Gurudwara

The stranded tourists have been kept in ITBP camp and Gurudwara. The District Collector says that the road has been blocked at many places, due to which the traffic towards Lachen is disrupted. Permission to travel will be given when the route is declared safe.

The road leading to Lachung has been cleared and tourists have been safely sent back to Gangtok. Officials are keeping a close watch on the situation due to intermittent rains in the area. Further information is awaited.

It rained heavily in the beginning of the month

It is noteworthy that at the beginning of this month, severe storm and hailstorm occurred in many parts of Pakyong, Gangtok and Mangan districts, due to which power lines were broken and there was no electricity in many areas. In Gangtok district, loud sparks were also reported on the transmission line near Namli area, affecting power supply in Nimtar, Topakhani and Singtam.
