Assam Congress president and Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi on Monday hit back at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s allegations of ‘Pakistan connection’. Gogoi has requested the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognizance against the Chief Minister. He had given information about his children to the media. Chief Minister Sarma on Sunday released the findings of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigation which alleged deep ties between Gaurav Gogoi, his British wife Elizabeth Colburn Gogoi and a Pakistani national, Ali Tauqeer Shaikh.
Sarma is ineligible for the post of CM – Gogoi
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Gaurav Gogoi strongly criticized Chief Minister Sharma for making public information about his children and termed him unfit for the post of Chief Minister.
Information related to my children was leaked – Gogoi
He said, ‘He resorted to such despicable acts that he even leaked information related to my children. We also know about their children; Everyone knows, but we don’t want to reveal it. He has proved that he is not worthy of the post of Chief Minister. Assam is embarrassed by his words. Why are they spreading false information? The Supreme Court should take suo motu cognizance against him.
SIT could not present any evidence- Gogoi
Refuting the allegations against him, Gaurav Gogoi said that the SIT could not present any evidence. He said, ‘In yesterday’s two and a half hour long press conference, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma could not present any evidence which could prove that I am an agent of some other country. They kept talking nonsense. He has the SIT report for the last six months.
Why was CM silent for 6 months?
Gogoi said that last year he had said that he would make the SIT report public on September 10. If this is a matter of national security, then we have only one question, why has the Chief Minister remained silent on this report for the last six months? The reason for this is that the SIT formed by him has failed to present any evidence.
CM has taken possession of 12000 bighas of land
The Congress MP once again alleged that Chief Minister Sharma’s family is in illegal possession of 12,000 bighas (about 4,000 acres) of land across Assam. He agreed to cooperate with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case and demanded release of the SIT report.
