Amidst the Middle East war and Iran’s strictness on the Strait of Hormuz, two Indian ships loaded with LPG are about to reach Gujarat coast. One of these, Shivalik, will reach Mundra port in Gujarat between 1 to 2 pm today. Whereas, Nanda Devi will reach Kandla port on 17th March. About 92,712 tonnes of LPG is loaded in these two ships. The two ships were among 24 ships stranded in the western part of the Strait of Hormuz after the war began in the region. As soon as the war started in the Middle East, Iran had clearly said that it would not allow a single drop of oil to pass through Hormuz. However, the news of Indian ships leaving Hormuz has shocked the entire world. Meanwhile, now India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has revealed how India was successful in taking the ships from Hormuz.
What did S Jaishankar say?
Actually, India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has arrived in Brussels to attend a meeting of European Union foreign ministers. Here he said in an interview given to the Financial Times – At present I am busy talking to them (Iran) and some results have emerged from my talks. If this conversation is producing results for me, I’ll continue to pay attention. Certainly, from India’s point of view, it is better that we reason and coordinate and we find a solution. If other people are allowed to join in this way, I think the world is better for it.” Let us tell you that recently Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Argchi has also given a statement that Iran is ready for talks with countries that want to discuss the safe passage of their ships.
‘Every relationship stands on its own merits’
S Jaishankar was asked whether European countries can also follow this step of India? To this he said – “Of course, every relationship stands on its own merits. It is very difficult for me to compare it with any other relationship. In which these may or may not be there. I will be happy to share what we are doing. I know many people have also talked to Tehran.”
There is a relationship between India and Iran – Jaishankar
India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said – “No ‘Blanket Arrangement’ has been made with Iran for Indian flagged ships. The movement of every ship is an individual incident. Jaishankar has also denied that Iran has got anything in return. Citing the history of dealing with each other, Jaishankar said – “This is not an issue of exchange. There is a relationship between India and Iran. And this is a conflict that we consider very unfortunate. This is just the beginning, we have many more ships there. “While this is a welcome development, talks are ongoing.”
