What is the news?
For the last few days, fraud is being done by sending fake messages regarding State Bank of India (SBI) YONO app on other social media platforms including WhatsApp. In this, users are being trapped on the pretext of updating Aadhaar. Due to this their personal data is in danger. If you also get such a message then you need to be alert. Let us know how this scam is being run and how it can be avoided.
This kind of fraud is being done
In the fake message, it is written in the name of SBI that your YONO account will be blocked from tonight, because your Aadhaar is not updated. Along with this, an APK file is sent below the message, whose name is ‘SBI KYC Aadhaar Update.apk’. The fraudsters want users to install this file so that their mobile phone gets hacked and even their banking data, password, OTP and UPI PIN are put at risk.
These can be disadvantages
Such fake messages are the most common trick used by cyber criminals to trap users. Such APK apps usually contain spyware, malware or keyloggers, which can steal everything from your phone, including banking passwords, UPI PIN, OTP, debit/credit card information, contacts and media from the gallery. Once the phone is hacked, scammers can control everything from your Yono account to your Paytm, Google Pay and UPI.
When does the app get blocked?
Yono app gets blocked only if you yourself enter wrong password, not doing KYC on time or suspicious activity is found in the account, but not updating Aadhaar does not block it. You can do KYC or Aadhaar update by visiting the nearest SBI branch, its official website or through the secure section of the YONO app. The bank never asks to install an APK, click on a link or send any document through WhatsApp.
stay safe like this
To avoid any kind of fraud, do not download any unknown APK file or app. Do not click on SBI or Aadhaar links sent on WhatsApp, SMS or social media. Immediately report any message received from any unknown number on your mobile. Along with this, always keep third-party app installation off in the phone. Also keep in mind that do not give Aadhaar number, bank details or OTP to anyone, because this can lead to emptying of the account.
