There are assembly elections in West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry next month in April. The position of BJP in the present assemblies of these five states is quite different. The party is in power and in a strong position in Assam.

The strong position of BJP in Assam is considered to be the biggest success of NDA. Many big leaders of Congress in Assam have joined BJP. The position of Congress has weakened considerably.

Kerala

BJP has never been able to reach the assembly in Kerala. BJP had zero seats in 2021. This time BJP is preparing for a direct contest on Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan’s seat Dharmadam. BJP’s weakest position in South India is in Kerala, where LDF and UDF dominate.

Tamil Nadu

BJP’s presence in Tamil Nadu is very limited. With the support of AIADMK alliance, BJP could win only 4 seats in 2021. AIADMK has given 27 seats to BJP in 2026, but the current number is only 4. DMK’s dominance continues here and BJP has to struggle among Dravidian parties.

Puducherry

BJP is part of the NDA alliance in Puducherry. Sharing power with AINRC. In 2021, BJP had won 6 seats. Among the current 6 MLAs, Home Minister A. Namasivayam, Speaker R. Selvam and others. BJP has declared 9 candidates for 2026 and plans to contest on 10 seats. This number of BJP is playing an important role in the small state.
