Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma has made a big claim before the assembly elections to be held in March-April this year. He said that the ruling BJP and its allies can win 103 out of 126 assembly seats. Sharma said that it would be too early to speculate about the elections as both the ruling and opposition parties have not yet finalized the alliance and seat-sharing arrangements.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a program in Dimoria in Kamrup Metropolitan district, Himanta Vishwa Sharma said, “This time there is a strong possibility of BJP winning 103 seats. Earlier it was 90. After delimitation, this number has further increased by 13-15.” The delimitation work was completed in 2023 and the boundaries of both the Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies were redrawn without affecting the total number of seats.

CM Sharma said that on 103 seats, BJP and its allies are more likely to win, while on about 22 seats, they are expected to fight only a symbolic battle, but not necessarily win. He said, “The public will decide whether we win 100 percent seats or remain limited to 90 or 80 percent.”

The CM also targeted State Congress President Gaurav Gogoi and said that opposition leaders keep thinking about him all the time. He said sarcastically, “Gogoi is from the elite class, he is from the family of a king. He is giving me so much importance, it makes me happy. I never thought I would become so important. He is constantly thinking about me.

Asked about a forecast released on Saturday that predicted a ‘hat-trick’ (third consecutive win) for the NDA, Sharma said, “This is not the time to make predictions as the alliance of either the NDA or the UPA is not clear. It is not clear which party will contest on how many seats. However, he said that BJP has been shown ahead in the estimates, but the picture will become clearer by February.
