What are member tags and how do they work?
Member tags are actually custom text labels that appear below your name in a particular WhatsApp group. These tags clearly state your role, relationship or identity in the group. Like “Parent Volunteer” in a school group, “Editor” in an office group, “Secretary” in a society group or “Team Captain” in a sports group. Separate tags can be set for each group and are visible only within that group.
Easy way to add member tags
To add member tags, first make sure that the latest version of WhatsApp is installed in your phone. After this open the group chat in which you want to add the tag. Go to the group info section by tapping on the group name. There you will find the option of “Add Member Tag” below your profile. Type a tag describing your role, up to 30 characters, then save it.
Option to edit or delete tag also available
If you want to change or completely remove your member tag in the future, the process is also very easy. For this, your tag can be edited or deleted by going to group info again. This change will be limited only to the group where you have placed the tag. This will not affect your identity in other group or personal chats, due to which the privacy of the users is maintained.
