So far more than 37 people have died and 40 people are missing due to floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh, especially in Mandi district. According to the State Disaster Management Authority, the continuous rains have caused widespread destruction and have damaged assets worth more than Rs 400 crore. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for several districts, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall till 7 July.
Orange alert issued in many districts
IMD has issued an orange alert for Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur on 5 July and Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Chamba and Mandi on 6 July, indicating a high risk of heavy rains and potential floods. Yellow alert will be effective for other parts of the state. The department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall at different places, which may increase the risk of sudden floods, landslides and road jams, especially in flood affected areas.
Heavy destruction in the market

More than 250 roads closed
About 250 roads are closed in the entire state due to continuous rains, floods and landslides, more than 500 power distribution transformers are not working and about 700 drinking water schemes have been affected. Schools in the capital Shimla have been flooded. Due to this, studies in schools have stopped and parents are also facing trouble. Authorities have issued a warning regarding heavy rains in different districts of Himachal Pradesh for the next few days. Also, state officials are also on high alert.
