An Indigo flight going from Delhi to Manchester returned 7 hours after takeoff. After taking off from Delhi, the plane flew over the Arabian Sea and reached Oman UAE, but after that it was forced to return. According to Flightradar24, a website that tracks all passenger flights, IndiGo flight 6E33 was being operated by Norse. It took a U-turn near the border of Ethiopia and Eritrea and returned to Delhi.
This plane left from Delhi for the British city of Manchester in the early hours of Monday. This was IndiGo’s first Delhi-Manchester flight since February 26. After a long gap, flights resumed on this route and under normal circumstances the flight reaches its destination in about 11 hours. Flight tracking data shows that the plane followed a route designed to avoid active conflict areas in West Asia. Despite this, he had to turn back after flying for about seven hours.
Airspace restrictions imposed at the last moment
According to Flightradar24, the plane had followed an unusual southern route through the Gulf of Aden and parts of Africa, bypassing much of the Middle Eastern airspace amid rising Iran-Israel tensions in the region. The diversion occurred despite the aircraft completely avoiding active conflict areas, highlighting the impact of rapidly changing airspace restrictions in parts of West Asia. In a statement, an IndiGo spokesperson said the airline had to take the decision at the last minute after airspace restrictions were imposed.
Spokesperson gave information
An IndiGo spokesperson said, “Due to the changing situation in and around the Middle East, some of our flights may have to take longer routes or be diverted. Due to last-minute airspace restrictions imposed due to the ongoing situation in West Asia, our flight 6E 033 from Delhi to Manchester had to return to its origin.”
Preparations to resume flights
The airline said it is currently working with authorities to determine whether travel can resume. “We are working with the relevant authorities to explore the possibilities of resuming travel. As always, the safety of our customers, crew and aircraft remains paramount for us,” the spokesperson said.
The flight was of total 11 hours
The great-circle distance of the Delhi-Manchester route is approximately 6,829 kilometres, and the average flying time is approximately 11 hours, depending on the route and weather conditions. The war in the Middle East began on February 28 after a joint attack on Iran by the US and Israel, two allies, which killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Since then Iran has been attacking Israel and US military bases in the Gulf countries. Both the allied countries are also attacking Iranian targets.
